With her passing, her estate wished to share this remarkable collection with the world. In partnership with Blue Box Auction and Gallery, a three-day live and online event was arranged to showcase her breathtaking jewelry, giving bidders a chance to own a piece of her global legacy.

The Challenge: A Worldwide Audience for a Singular Collection

The challenge was to bring the story of this unique collection to life and attract a diverse audience of bidders—both locally and internationally. With over $1 million worth of estate jewelry to offer, it was critical to highlight the exclusive nature of the pieces while ensuring accessibility to both seasoned collectors and first-time buyers. The auction needed to appeal to a wide range of tastes, from classic gold and diamonds to rare, exotic gemstones and sterling silver.

Moreover, given the three-day format and the variety of items, we needed to maintain excitement and engagement across all auction days, ensuring that each day’s unique selection stood out.

The Strategy: Presenting the Collection as a Global Journey

To capture the essence of the collection and drive maximum participation, we crafted a strategy that emphasized the story of the original owner’s world travels. The jewelry wasn’t just valuable—it was a part of her life, collected from far-flung corners of the earth.

  • Storytelling & Exclusivity: The marketing materials focused on the airline professional’s lifetime of adventures and her rare finds from across the globe. By showcasing the exotic origins of the collection, we tapped into a sense of discovery and adventure that appealed to collectors.

  • Targeted Marketing Campaign: We used a combination of local and international digital campaigns, targeting jewelry enthusiasts, high-end collectors, and those seeking unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. Email campaigns, social media promotions, and specialized ads highlighted the diversity of the collection and the opportunity to participate in this exclusive event.

  • Themed Auction Days: To maintain excitement and engagement, each auction day was given a distinct theme:

    • Day 1: International Treasures: Featuring 18-karat and 14-karat gold jewelry, pearls, amber, and diamonds.
    • Day 2: Gemstone Showcase: Rings, bracelets, and necklaces with emeralds, rubies, sapphires, tourmaline, and more.
    • Day 3: Sterling Silver Sunday: Sterling silver jewelry, watches, and accessories, including silver and gemstone combinations.

  • Live & Online Accessibility: With a hybrid format, bidders could participate in person at Virginia Beach or online from anywhere in the world, ensuring maximum reach. For international buyers, worldwide shipping was made available.

Auction Days: Three Days of Glamour and Competition

On September 16, 2022, the auction kicked off with Day 1: International Treasures, a breathtaking array of 18-karat and 14-karat gold, amber, diamonds, and pearls. Jewelry collectors from around the globe tuned in online or attended in person to bid on exclusive pieces, many of which boasted intricate designs and craftsmanship.

Day 2, the Gemstone Showcase, kept the momentum going with an array of colorful, precious gemstones. Rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and amethysts sparkled as bidders vied for statement rings, necklaces, and bracelets. Fine watches from luxury brands such as Gucci, Seiko, and Anne Klein added to the allure, making this day a particular highlight for watch collectors.

Finally, on Sterling Silver Sunday, Day 3, bidders were treated to an impressive 150 lots of sterling silver jewelry and accessories. Rings with blue topaz, turquoise, and sapphire were among the standout pieces, drawing fierce bidding from silver aficionados and gemstone lovers alike.
